The Battle Within

In life, people live with the idea that they are good upstanding citizens in the community at large and in our community of faith. People look and praise them for their acts of kindness and the compassion they show to others. But, in the heart, there is a battle; there are the things that others cannot see. They cannot see when they are irritated on the subway and they lash out in the most un Christian like way; later, when they reflect on their behavior, they can’t believe that they behaved that way.

They are crushed by their conduct and wish for a do over, but it’s not possible. They cry and promise that this behavior would never happen again; then, months later, there is another outburst very similar to the previous outburst and they have difficulty understanding why they keep repeating the same issue again and again. There is a serious conflict between what they want to do and what they actually do.

The Apostle Paul in Romans 7:15 CEV said, “In fact, I don’t understand why I act the way I do. I don’t do what I know is right. I do the things I hate.” So what do we do? When our sinful nature is in control, we are not walking in the Law of God. The Law that was given by Moses identified transgressions against God, and transgressions against others. What do we do? Is there any hope for us? Are we doomed to continue the cycle? Christ. But thank God that He sent His Son to redeem us. Galatians 3:13 AMP says, “Christ purchased our freedom and redeemed us from the curse of the Law and its condemnation by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs [crucified] on a tree (cross).”

Your sinful nature wants to have its way. You cannot be successful in this battle in your own strength. Romans 8:14 NLT says, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are childrenof God.”  The Spirit of God in our life makes the difference. That means we have a choice to make. If you choose to allow your sinful nature to take control your life that would lead to death. Instead, choose through the power of the Spirit in you to put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, so you can live a life that pleases God.

Thought for Today: Friend, there is victory in the battle.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
