Press Forward

Michael Jordan said, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” Obstacles walk into every life; they don’t ask about your bank account, your mental stability, or the level of your success. Obstacles just show up!

In Genesis 31, we see that Jacob is facing some obstacles of his own. He spent the last twenty years working for his father-in-law and in the process, Jacob became wealthy. His brothers-in-law were resentful and said, “Jacob has robbed our father of everything!” He has gained all his wealth at our father’s expense.” (verse 1) Jacob didn’t know what to do. And if that was not bad enough, his father-in-law’s attitude towards him changed.

Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.” (verse 3) So Jacob gathered his wives and children and left. You see, Laban, Jacob’s father-in -law, was dishonest. He took advantage of Jacob at every opportunity. Jacob told his wives, “You know how hard I have worked for your father, but he has cheated me, changing my wages ten times. But God has not allowed him to do me any harm.” (verses 6-7)

How would you respond in Jacob’s situation? Some of us would put our finger in Laban’s face and recount every evil thing he did. But that was not necessary. Jacob experienced the faithfulness of God. Every time Laban plotted to cheat Jacob, God turned it around. God does not change. God is still faithful to us today. Don’t allow others to dictate your response; even in the face of adversity, God will turn your situation around.

Thought for Today: Friend, when the road is tough, press forward.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
