When Passion Makes the Difference

It’s always a blessing to listen to how an individual or a group triumph over adversity. No one is immune from the challenges of life; we face challenges as individuals and as a community. Surveys tell us that attendance at religious activities declined after the pandemic. From my personal observations, some members returned; some come on special occasions and some never returned.

Belmont Wesleyan Holiness Church, in Belmont Trinidad, was no different; fifty percent of the congregation did not return to the house of worship. The Senior Pastor, Livingston Mayers, was troubled. He had to find a solution to the problem of non-attendance. The pastor and the leadership of the church explored their options and devised a plan of action: they will go out into the community. This will enable them to meet new people and reconnect with those who did not return. This was a big undertaking. What can they do to set their program in motion?

They decided to host an outdoor musical event with a well know local gospel singer. The success of these events takes time and preparation, covered with prayer. And that is just what the Senior Pastor, First Lady Mayers, the leadership, and members committed themselves to do. As a result, this event was an enormous success. The members of the community responded favorably, and they requested that the church come and work in their community. They didn’t stop there. The church conducted another event; they hosted a Parenting Conference with a Christian Psychologist who shared and took the time to answer questions and provide follow up services.

Matthew 28:19 NLT says,  Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”  That mandate is our mission today. The world has changed and the activities that worked before do not produce the outcomes they did before. When we step out in obedience, God responds.

Thought for Today: Friend, with God all things are possible.

Have a blessed day and walk in faith and victory.
