Purpose in the Storm

How does it feel when you wake up to violent thunder and torrential rains? If it’s possible, you may pull the cover over your head and go back to sleep. But what can you do when there is a storm coming? We prepare the best we can to ride out the storm.

However, there are some storms that the meteorologist cannot forecast; I’m talking about the storms we face in our lives. When I look at my life and those around me, it seems that everyone either went through a storm, is going through a storm or is about to go through a storm. We cannot escape the storms of life. However, we cannot escape these storms simply by pulling the cover over our head and going to sleep. The Apostle Paul encountered storms both literally and figuratively.

In Acts 19, he encountered a figurative storm. He was in Lystra, on one of his Missionary Journeys and he saw a disabled man who never walked. So, Paul called to him in a loud voice, “Stand up!” And the man jumped to his feet and started walking. (Acts 19:10 NLT) The people thought that Paul and Barnabas we Greek gods and began to worship them. Paul and Barnabus told them that they were humans just like them preaching the Good News of salvation. Then, some Jews arrived and turned the crowd against them; as a result, the stoned him and left him for dead. But as the believers gathered around him, he got up and went back into the town. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe. (verse 20)

Paul continued his journey but returned to Lystra. He encouraged the believers and reminded them that at times we must suffer hardships. Have you, like Paul, suffered hardship for doing good? Was that a storm you faced? When the storms of life leave you for dead on the streets of life; God always has believers who He will assign to gather around you, pray over you and encourage you so you can be a testimony that there is purpose in you/ You can’t hide from the storms of life, but you can be a testimony that there is purpose in your storm.

Thought for Today: Friend, there is purpose in your storm; be encouraged.

  1. Yes, there is a blessing in the storm. Today’s message reminds me of a storm I encountered. My sister told me God will send a believer to me. He did and I was able to overcome with God’s grace. Hallelujah
