The dictionary defines kindness as the quality of being generous, helpful, and caring about other people, or an act showing this quality. Mark Twain said, “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
It is easy to look for at the Good Samaritan to discuss kindness. But as I pondered this topic, I began to look at my own life and the stories and experiences of my family. I have two sons and I will relate their stories. One son can spot a person on the side of the road asking for help. While they seem invisible to others, they are never invisible to him. I was driving with him one day when he noticed an elderly lady with a walker going to a store. He left the car to hold the door for her. We were at a light, when the light changed, no one blew their horns. My other son was on his way home when he noticed a man in the McDonalds parking lot going through the garbage looking for food. He went into the lot, bought the stranger a meal and gave him the cash that was in his wallet.
Before I had a driver’s license, my husband would move the car for alternate parking. This morning, he had to move it before going to work. He was taking a long time, and I was concerned that he would be late for work. When he got home, he said there was a woman with a flat tire who needed help; he stopped and helped her. I had a desire to feed people. I volunteered at a soup kitchen because I wanted to begin a soup kitchen at church. God had other plans; He connected me with someone who knew of a homeless shelter where I was able to feed the residents. That job was beyond me, so God sent some faithful individuals to help me. We fed these residents faithfully for four years monthly until we were shut down by Covid -19. We all can show kindness. Galatians 6:10 CEV says, “We should help people whenever we can, especially if they are followers of the Lord.”
