Yesterday was Resurrection Sunday and churches all over the world celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As I sat and reflected on this weekend from Friday to Sunday, I asked myself, what is the one thing that you want to remember? As I thought about it, I remembered Luke 22:42-43: “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him.
I have no idea what others have as their take away but those two verses stood out to me. I have experienced some difficult moments and because life is uncertain, there is a possibility that I might experience some difficult moments again. However, there is no one who is immune from the difficulties of life. Jesus had His difficult moment but He didn’t sit in a corner feeling sorry for Himself; instead, He went to God in prayer.
Sometimes when we are confronted with impossible situations, our emotions take over. Some of us respond in anger; others are overcome by grief and pain. The responses are as varied as there are people but when I looked at the way Jesus dealt with His problem, I recognized in spite of what confronts me; the answer is in the place of prayer.
When people go through difficult moments, many times there are some of us who believe that their experiences mean that they are not walking with God and their lives are not pleasing to Him. But Jesus was walking in the will of the Father when He prayed this prayer. That tells us that difficult moments will come to anyone but it also teaches us that there is a correct course of action to take. Jesus didn’t fight; He prayed!
The Bible tells us that after His prayer, an angel appeared to Him and strengthened Him. Praise God for the ministry of ministering angels. All through the Bible, they ministered to people in need. When Daniel was placed into the lion’s den, God sent His ministering angels to shut the lion’s mouth so they could not harm him. If I do the same in my distress, God would send His ministering angels in my life and they will strengthen me.
Thought for Today: Friend, when life is difficult, pray.
