When we look at children, we often notice traits they share with their parents. That is why people say things like, “He is the spitting image of his father!” In the same way, as children of God, our lives should reflect our connection to Him.
God is love; this is not a cliché but truth. “My dear friends, we must love each other. Love comes from God, and when we love each other, it shows we have been given new life. We are now God’s children, and we know him.” (1 John 4:7 CEV). Love is God’s DNA, so when we love others, we are demonstrating to the world that we love God. The world describes love as liking and attraction. I wonder what happens when an individual no longer likes or is attracted, is there still love that relationship? Probably not. God demonstrated love; John 3:16 GW says: “God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.” Notice, this is different to the world’s standard of liking and attraction.
How do we live out that love? 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 tell us that love isn’t jealous, boastful, arrogant, rude, selfish, quick-tempered or keeps track of wrongdoing. Instead, love is patient, kind, rejoices in truth not evil, supportive, loyal, hopeful, trusting and never gives up. Love is not something God takes lightly because God had to make the ultimate sacrifice when He gave His Son to pay the penalty for man’s sin. How does Jesus’ sacrifice impact our lives? Jesus said, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:35 NLT). Our love is our proof.
Thought for Today: Friend, choose to love anyway.
